Thread Face Lifts - All You Need To Know

Posted by Al Nour Clinic on Sep 6, 2019 4:31:36 PM

Thread face & neck lift is a popular cosmetic procedure that aims at lifting and supporting the sagging soft tissue structures of the face using special threads.

It was first introduced in 1999 by a Russian Cosmetic surgeon Dr Martin Sulamanidze. The procedure is currently performed world-wide and has certainly revolutionised the whole concept of skin rejuvenation and face lifting.

Dr Abu Laban at Al Nour Clinic was one of the first doctors in WA to perform thread lifting in 2005. She was trained by worldwide pioneers in the field and has performed hundreds of procedures using different thread types and varying techniques tailored to individual patients needs.

The principle of the treatment is simple, Threads used are manufactured from a non-absorbable and biologically compatible material with human tissue. These low weight threads have a uni or bi-directional cogs or barbs along their length that enable them to anchor to the soft tissue of the face, thus acting as a truss to lift up the drooping brow, cheek or jowl. Threads are placed under the skin in varying positions depending on the patient’s facial anatomy and the part(s) of the face to be supported/lifted.

The upper end of the threads can be securely anchored deep underneath the skin. Once in place, threads stimulate collagen production around the barbs that secure the tissues in their new position. Further improvement is seen over the following months. Once the process is complete, threads fully absorb while results are maintained.

The type and number of threads used depend on patient’s facial anatomy and the areas that need to be treated. Threads can be used for middle or lower face lifting, eye brow as well as the neck.

The procedure is done under local anaesthesia with minimal discomfort. Minor incisions may be needed to anchor the threads usually above the hair line. No cuts or incisions are made in the face.

FAQ

"How long does the procedure take?"

Typically the procedure takes around 90 minutes, however, depending on the amount of threads used and how many areas of the face are being treated, it can take up to two hours.

"How long do the results last?"

Individual results will vary depending on multiple factors. Results are expected to last a minimum of 2-3 years.

"Is it painful?"

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia to minimise any discomfort.

"Are there any complications?"

Complications are rare, however, they can include bruising, swelling, skin infection, puckering of the skin, and the possibility of the end of the thread peaking out close to the skin.

In order to best manage any possible complications, follow-up appointments are scheduled with the clinic to monitor your recovery and results.

"How long will it take to recover?"

Lighter activities, such as office work, can be resumed immediately. However, on average patients need seven to ten days to resume more strenuous daily activities.

Some precautions to maximise results are:

  • As much as possible, do not sleep on the treated area, sleep on your back.
  • Drink plenty of fluids, avoid very hot drinks and alcohol.
  • It is recommended to eat soft foods to avoid excessive chewing for 48 hours post treatment.
  • No heavy exercise for 10 days post treatment
  • Avoid any activities where the treated area may get contaminated for 48 hours post treatment.

Thread Lifts at Al Nour Clinic

Here at Al Nour Clinic we use a variety of Threads, however we are proud to be among the first clinics in Australia to be using the recently TGA approved MINT PDO Threads.

MINT Threads are the latest technology and have superseded others in results. They are widely used in 14 countries and have just been TGA approved in Australia. They are made of a material called PDO (Polydioxanone) which is biologically compatible with human tissue and fully absorbable after results are delivered. These PDO threads are unique as they have 360 degree 3D helical barbs, strongly tightening sagging skin with long lasting effect. The barbs are machine press molded through a patent process rather than being cut, making these threads specifically strong with a great pulling effect and a superior outcome.
