Dermal Fillers Perth Frequently Asked QuestionsDermal fillers gained popularity during the 90’s and have been on the rise ever since. Already a favoured treatment with celebrities, fillers are now becoming more common among the general public due to the quick and easy nature of the procedure, the cost effectiveness and the positive results and changes it can have on your skin.

What are Dermal Fillers?

There are many types of dermal fillers used around the world. Fillers can differ substantially in their composition and quality, and hence results and safety. The dermal fillers we use at Al Nour Clinic are amongst the most reputable worldwide in delivering excellent results and in their safety profile. They are made from a naturally occurring composition called hyaluronic acid (HA). This biodegradable gel provides a temporary solution for smoothing the skin, adding volume and contouring treatable areas.

How do Dermal Fillers work?

By injecting the hyaluronic acid gel into the client’s skin to fill the cheek, lip, fold or wrinkle, an increase in volume can instantly be noticed and lines are diminished, resulting in a refreshed and revitalised look.

Are Dermal Fillers Safe?

Dermal fillers used at Al Nour Clinic are FDA approved and are therefore considered safe, however all cosmetic procedures carry some risk for complications. Your clinician will be able to discuss risks or potential side effects with you during your consultation. Safety of fillers injections is largely dependent on the experience of the injector, hence, selecting a highly experienced injector is recommended.

What areas can be treated?

Fillers can treat a variety of issues and are commonly used to; smooth lines on the face like nasolabial folds, smoker’s lines and marionette lines, add volume to the cheeks, lips and temples, reduce hallows under the eyes, produce a re-hydrated look on the hands or décolletage and they can even correct some anomalies like a gummy or crooked smile.

Is there any downtime?

Dermal fillers produce very little downtime. Treatments are generally over very quickly, between 30-45 minutes in total. Following a treatment, you may find you experience some localised swelling, redness and bruising but you can return to your day-to-day activities straight away.

Are there any side effects?

As with any medical procedure, some side effects are possible. The hyaluronic acid gel used in a treatment is usually tolerated well by the body but some swelling, redness, bruising, firmness and itching are all normal and should subside fairly quickly, in most cases within a week or so. Other uncommon or rare side effects will be discussed during the initial consultation with your treating doctor.

What are the benefits?

Dermal fillers offer a temporary solution to volume loss and wrinkles without undergoing an extreme and invasive procedure like a surgical face lift. As dermal fillers are directly injected into the area, changes are immediately visible and facial movement remains normal. Our skin gradually changes as we age and we may want to vary the amount of changes we deem to be required in order to feel our best. Dermal fillers allow us to control the quantity of solution used for different levels of desired results.

What does a treatment involve?

During a treatment, your clinician will talk to you about your concerned areas and advise you on the best placement sites. A decision is then made about the type of filler and the number of vials required to achieve optimum results. Once this has been agreed upon, the clinician will wipe the area with an alcohol or other antiseptic to ensure the area is clean. Topical numbing cream or nerve blocks may be used to minimise discomfort. Some fillers also have a local anaesthetic in them to reduce discomfort. The filler is injected using a very fine needle or canula. Most treatments only take between 30-45 minutes and the use of the numbing cream ensures any pain felt is minimal. A mild pinch or scratch sensation may be felt at times.

How quickly will I see the results?

Immediately following treatment, you will notice improvement. The final result is usually seen at 2-3 weeks post treatment.

How long will the effects last?

While fillers can be a long-lasting solution, the effects are not permanent. Duration of the effects will depend on; the filler used, the individual person (metabolic rate and certain medications can impact the duration of fillers), skin type, the area treated and lifestyle. Generally, you will see the effects for 9-18 months.
